Should you floss before or after brushing?
Margaret FeldborgThe great debate! To floss before or after brushing your teeth!
Dentists will have varying opinions on this, and to be honest - as long as you ARE flossing, you’re doing the right thing. But let’s talk about the pros/cons of flossing before or after brushing.
Flossing before:
Some dentists recommend flossing before you brush because they want the fluoride from your toothpaste to sit on your teeth after brushing. With this technique, you should floss, brush, spit, and NOT RINSE your teeth with water afterwards. Fluoride is added to dental products because it will remineralize our enamel and reverse cavities. This technique focuses on fluoride exposure.
My issue with this protocol is that brushing will move junk back into the inter proximal areas (areas between your teeth) that you have just removed when flossing.
Flossing after:
Some dentists recommend flossing after brushing because it will remove and gunk left in between your teeth after brushing. Some dentists dont like this because they claim that floss will remove the fluoride from those surfaces that was just placed there by the toothpaste. TrollTunga Tråd was designed to prevent this issue - it has a fluoride coating - this means that you can rinse your mouth out with water after brushing with a clean conscience. THEN go back in with our fluoride coated TrollTunga Tråd floss to clean out the areas in between your teeth. This way no gunk will be left over that could cause cavities and gum disease AND you are getting fluoride in the high risk cavity - interproximal areas.
TLDR:
Adding floss anywhere in your routine is a win.
When using TrollTunga Tråd - brush, rinse with water, floss. (add a fluoride mouthwash after flossing if you are extra prone to cavities).
